BÜLENT ECEVİT UNIVERSITY
Our university was established in Zonguldak, where one finds a harmonious union between nature’s green and blue, on the 11th of July in 1992 and was named BÜLENT ECEVİT University. Although officially established in 1992, its roots reach back to a mining engineer school established in 1924 in Zonguldak. By this means, our university has a unique claim as the first university that was established by the Republic of Turkey.
Bülent Ecevit University is recognized as a regional university that also operates in five nearby towns. Our university also has 211 foreign students from 36 different countries, twelve of which are European countries (Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Kosovo, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine), seven of which are African countries (Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Morocco and Somali) and seventeen of which are Asian countries (Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Yemen). With an academic staff of 1107 and 1,245 administrative staff, it continues to develop by establishing new departments and master programs.
Nowadays, since the development of strategic approaches to internationalisation is a necessity for universities, they compete in a challenging international environment, which is affecting all elements of the education system. Within this context, our university applied for the Diploma Supplement label which is possessed by reputable universities in Turkey and Europe, and documented its adherence to quality criteria set by the European Commission.
Students who have graduated from Bülent Ecevit University are given the Diploma Supplement (DS) which accompanies a higher education diploma, providing a standardized description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the courses completed by its holder besides their diplomas. In this sense, the Diploma Supplement is a response to the global problem of the increasing number of mobile citizens seeking fair recognition of their qualifications outside their home countries and the non-recognition and poor evaluation of qualifications. Besides, within the effort of internationalization, in 2012, our university became a member of the European University Association (EUA) which is one of the leading institutions shaping higher education in Europe.
